Is campus safety in question?
Just before noon on Friday, Dec. 9th, 2011, two UH Hilo students waited outside of the piano room in Portable Building 8A. From between the wooden sidewalk slats one of the women spied movement beneath her feet. She was alarmed to see a human eye gaze up at her from between the boards.

Memorial service and sentencing bring closure
Ted Braxton Remembered
The sunlight over Hilo slid down individual rays and came to rest on the back lawn of the Performing Arts Center like ellipsoidal spotlights searching for the artist on stage. Every now and again, a friend or family member would pass quickly through one of the rays as the group assembled on the grassy knoll spoke quietly in anticipation of the coming memorial service.

Providing education in Hawai'i
Money still buys the day
Excelling in school has been a characteristic of mine since I can remember, so it feels ironic that I have been compelled by the recent Hawai‘i State Teachers Association contract vote and ensuing political maneuvering to compose an editorial that allows me to put the pieces together as I see them.

What's love got to do with it?
Love; For centuries the greatest minds have sought to understand the emotion so powerful and possessive that some say it's madness. But none have reached even a working definition. Then again, in summation of my past relationships, I think it is safe to say love is undeniably a good bit of madness.

Return of the Mack
UH Hilo's top man and his life long love of the game
Swish. There is no sound sweeter to the ears of a shooter. After gathering the ball again, a teenage Terrell Mack repeats the process. Crossover, hesitation, pull up. "Snap." The sound of the ball splashing through the net fills the air of the empty gym, his Jordan's squeaking repeatedly on the polished hardwood.

The Wailoa Razorbacks
Fight to the last buzzer, gridlock Waiakea
Sports fascinate the masses because of the competition. One can never say it enough. If winning didn't matter, they wouldn't keep track of the score, but there are certain battles in which both teams exert equal effort. Both teams deserve to win, but neither deserves to lose.

The plays that changed the game
On a 3rd and three play from the Patriots' 11-yard line, Eli Manning hit wide receiver Victor Cruz for first down yardage, but Patriots' cornerback Sterling Moore stripped Cruz of the football, which New England recovered. With the Giants in position to at least get a field goal attempt, the Patriots seemed to have saved themselves points early in the game.
